Who Are the Elks?

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (BPOE), established in the USA in the 1800’s, is renowned for its charitable projects at both the national and community levels. With just under 1 million members in more than 2000 lodges across the country, the Elks are one of the largest and most active fraternal & charitable organizations in the world! The Elks are also one of the largest contributors of college scholarships in the nation, giving millions of dollars through their Elks National Foundation each year. Elks strongly support Americanism, celebrating and honoring our flag. National Flag Day was created as a result of Elks encouragement. Who Are the Tampa Elks?

The Tampa Elks Lodge #708 is the Elks Lodge in Tampa, Florida. Established in 1902, we have a long history of service to the community & the nation. We actively provide free outreach programs to the Youth of Tampa Bay, the Veterans at James A. Haley VA Hospital, the Athena House (for homeless women veterans) and we are a sponsor of the Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County. Our State and National projects include a 385 acre, top-rated summer camp in Umatilla, Florida where many under-privileged children are sponsored by lodges throughout the country each year. Our “Mobile” Therapy vans provide free orthopedic and disability therapy to children, in the comfort of their own home throughout Florida. We are very active in the Elks Nationwide Hoop Shoot and Soccer Shoot competitions in which over 3 million kids participate each year.
